Govardhan
A revered Vaishnav pilgrim town around the sacred Govardhan Hill (Giriraj Ji), ringed by the 21-km parikrama and Braj's holiest kunds. Strictly satvik and pure-vegetarian, it is one of the spiritual anchors of Krishna's Braj-bhoomi.

About Govardhan
Roughly 22 km west of Mathura, Govardhan grew up around Giriraj Ji — the low sandstone ridge that tradition holds Krishna lifted on one finger to shelter Braj from Indra's storm.
- Pilgrims come to walk the 21-km Giriraj Parikrama, a barefoot circle that begins and ends at Mansi Ganga and passes Daan Ghati, Kusum Sarovar, Govind Kund and the twin ponds of Radha Kund and Shyam Kund, held to be the holiest kunds in all of Braj.
- The town is devotional to its core: worship of the hill itself, unhurried ghats, and the great Annakut and Chappan Bhog food-offerings.
- Food is entirely satvik and pure-vegetarian — no meat, egg or alcohol — with Braj peda, hot kachori and temple prasad the staples.
- Around Holi, keep clear of roadside bhang-thandai.
- October to March is most comfortable; monsoon-season Mudia Purnima and the day-after-Diwali Govardhan Puja draw the largest crowds.
- Vrindavan lies about 25 km away for a linked Braj itinerary.
