Nandgaon
Nandgaon is the hilltop village where, by tradition, the child Krishna grew up in the home of his foster parents Nanda Baba and Yashoda. Partner-town to nearby Barsana, it is the "groom's side" of Braj's famous Lathmar Holi and a serene, strictly vegetarian stop on the Krishna pilgrim trail.

About Nandgaon
Set on the low Nandishwar hill about an hour northwest of Mathura, Nandgaon is revered as the childhood home of Krishna, raised here by his foster parents Nanda Baba and Yashoda.
- Pilgrims climb to Nand Bhavan (the Nand Baba temple), a red-sandstone haveli-style shrine rebuilt centuries ago, then walk down to Pan Sarovar — the tank where, by tradition, Krishna watered the village cows — and to Yashoda Kund.
- Nandgaon and neighbouring Barsana are the twin stages of Lathmar Holi, when men from Nandgaon visit Barsana to a playful welcome of sticks and colour, and the villages answer on the following day.
- Food is simple, satvik and entirely vegetarian, often cooked without onion or garlic: soft Mathura-style peda, hot kachori with jalebi, thick lassi and makhan-mishri offered as temple prasad.
- During Holi some Braj stalls serve bhang-laced thandai — an intoxicant, best avoided.
- Quietest and greenest from October to March, the village fills for Holi, Janmashtami and the Nand Mahotsav.
