A firm safety note applies
the Ganga here runs cold and deceptively swift. Bathe only where iron holding-chains are provided, keep a firm hand on children, and stay well back from the edge — the current is unforgiving. As a Saptapuri holy city, Haridwar is entirely vegetarian and alcohol-free by long-standing custom and civic norm, so the surrounding lanes are wholly meat-free. No food is sold on the ground itself, but the pure-vegetarian eateries and sweet shops of Bara Bazaar and the Upper Road are a short walk across the footbridges, making an unhurried satvik meal an easy add-on before or after the aarti.
