Panchi Petha, established in 1955 on Sadar Bazar Road, is Agra's benchmark for petha — the city's iconic translucent ash-gourd sweet slow-cooked in sugar syrup. Panchi's plain original petha is the standard all other shops are measured against: delicately perfumed, not cloying, with a clean sweetness from properly drained and dried ash gourd. The shop also produces kesar (saffron), anguri (grape-shaped small pieces), pan (betel-leaf flavoured), and dry angoori varieties. Buy only at the Sadar Bazar flagship — roadside stalls claiming to be "Panchi branches" are imitations.
