Mahidpur Heritage Town

Set on the banks of the Shipra (Kshipra) in the northern reaches of Ujjain district, Mahidpur is the kind of small Malwa town that most itineraries skip and history buffs seek out.

• It carries a name that echoes through the story of the Maratha confederacy: on 21 December 1817, the fields around Mahidpur witnessed one of the decisive engagements of the Third Anglo-Maratha War, when the forces of the Holkar state clashed with the army of the British East India Company.
