ISKCON Prayagraj – Sri Sri Radha Venimadhava Mandir

On the bank of the Yamuna at Baluaghat, in the Katehra Dariyabad quarter of Prayagraj, the ISKCON temple is the city's most welcoming and visitor-friendly Krishna shrine.

• The presiding deities are Sri Sri Radha Venimadhava (installed 2003), worshipped in the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition.
• The deities are genuinely named after Prayag's own revered Veni Madhav (Venimadhava) — one of the twelve Madhava forms of Vishnu that pilgrims have venerated at the confluence city for centuries — so the temple's name deliberately weaves ISKCON's Radha-Krishna worship into Prayag's ancient Madhava heritage.
• The temple stands close to, but not directly on, the Triveni Sangam; the confluence lies a short distance away, while the shrine itself rises on the Yamuna's edge.
• Where some of the city's ancient riverside shrines can feel austere and crowded, this modern temple offers a calm, well-kept alternative: bright marble halls, a canopied altar, devotional kirtan through the day, and unhurried darshan that first-time visitors find easy to navigate.
• The complex belongs to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), the global Gaudiya Vaishnava movement, and follows the same rhythms familiar from ISKCON centres everywhere — the pre-dawn mangala aarti, morning and evening darshan, readings from the Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam, and a swelling of song on Janmashtami, Radhashtami and Kartik.
• A resident goshala (cow shelter) and green garden give the grounds a gentle, pastoral quiet that feels a world away from the busy ghats, making it a restful pause between visits to the Sangam, the Fort riverfront and the freedom-movement museums of the city.
• Photography is generally welcome in the courtyard and gardens; visitors are asked to remove footwear and dress modestly before entering the temple hall.
• For pilgrims coming to Prayagraj for the Magh Mela or Kumbh, or simply for the confluence darshan, the temple is a natural stop — spiritually resonant with the city's Vaishnava heritage, yet peaceful and unintimidating.
• Entry is free and the sevaks are used to guiding newcomers.
• Food here is a highlight and reliably pure-vegetarian: like all ISKCON kitchens, the temple prepares strictly sattvic, onion-and-garlic-free prasadam, and its Sunday feast (Sunday Love Feast) is a much-loved sit-down vegetarian meal.
• Plain, bhang-free thandai and sweets appear on festival days.
• Elsewhere in the old city, Prayagraj offers some of North India's finest pure-veg street food — the breakfast lanes of Loknath in Chowk are home to long-standing pure-vegetarian institutions such as Netram's kachori-sabzi and Rajaram's thick lassi, which have fed pilgrims for generations, alongside the kachori, samosa, jalebi and chaat stalls of Katra and Civil Lines.
