Statue of Oneness (Ekatmata ki Pratima)

Rising 108 feet above the wooded shoulder of Mandhata Parvat, the Statue of Oneness — Ekatmata ki Pratima — is the newest landmark on Omkareshwar's sacred Om-shaped island, and one of the tallest statues of a spiritual teacher in India.

• Unveiled in September 2023, it depicts Adi Shankaracharya not as an aged sage but as a serene twelve-year-old ascetic, the age at which, by tradition, the young Shankara reached Omkareshwar and met his guru Govinda Bhagavatpada in a riverside cave.
• The child-monk stands with a gentle half-smile, staff and water pot in hand, gazing out over the Narmada — a deliberate choice to honour the place where the founder of Advaita Vedanta is believed to have begun his short, transformative journey across the subcontinent.
• The figure is cast from a multi-metal alloy, its burnished bronze skin assembled from hundreds of individual panels over a steel armature, weighing roughly a hundred tonnes.
• It forms the centrepiece of the much larger Ekatm Dham (Advaita Lok) complex slowly taking shape on the hill, which is planned to include an Advaita museum and teaching spaces devoted to Shankara's philosophy of oneness — the non-dual idea that the individual self and the universal are, in essence, one.
• Reaching the base involves a short climb or shuttle ride from the temple town; the effort is repaid by sweeping views of the Narmada threading between Mandhata island and the mainland, the twin ghats, and the pilgrim bridges far below.
• Visit in the early morning or the golden hour before sunset, when the metal catches warm light and the river valley softens into haze.
• Allow time to pair the statue with the Govindpada cave and the two Jyotirlinga shrines down in the town.
• Modest dress and quiet conduct are appreciated, as this is a devotional as much as a sightseeing site.
• For food, Omkareshwar is a Narmada pilgrim town and its kitchens are almost entirely pure-vegetarian.
• On the climb down, the bhojanalayas and pure-veg thali houses near the temple ghats serve unlimited Nimari–Malwa thalis — rotis, dal, seasonal sabzi, rice and a sweet — while roadside stalls turn out hot poha-jalebi at breakfast and sabudana khichdi, kachori and samosa through the day.
• Many kitchens keep an onion-garlic-free (satvik) counter for fasting pilgrims, and glasses of chilled chaas or masala chai are never far away.
