Someshwar Mahadev Temple

A few kilometres upstream of the crowded ghats of Panchavati, the Godavari slows into a broad, tree-shaded bend, and it is here that the Someshwar Mahadev Temple has stood for generations as one of Nashik's most loved riverside retreats.

• The temple is dedicated to Shiva in his form as Someshwar, and by tradition the spot is woven into the Ramayana geography of the Nashik region, believed to be one of the many places along the river associated with Rama's forest exile.
• Whatever the legend, the appeal today is unmistakably physical: a modest stone shrine, a tall sacred flag, and a wide green riverbank where families gather in the cool of the morning and evening.

• A central sanctum houses the Shiva linga, worshipped with bilva leaves, water and flowers, while an adjacent shrine to Hanuman (often called the Balaji or Maruti shrine here) draws its own steady stream of devotees, especially on Saturdays.

• Boating is popular on this calmer stretch of the Godavari, with small rowboats available near the bank, and a short distance away lies the seasonal Someshwar Waterfall (locally known as Dudhsagar Falls), which comes alive during and just after the monsoon when the river is in spate.
• Together they make Someshwar an easy half-morning outing that blends a working temple, a green riverfront, and a splash of nature within the city limits.
