Saraf Bazaar

Tucked into the tight grid of lanes that make up Nashik's old-city commercial quarter, Saraf Bazaar is the historic address for gold and silver in this Godavari-side town.

• "Saraf" is the old Marathi word for a goldsmith or bullion trader, and the bazaar has carried the trade for generations — a compact, buzzing artery where family-run showrooms stand shoulder to shoulder behind glass fronts and roll-down shutters.
• By tradition the lane grew alongside the pilgrim economy of Panchavati and the ghats, since weddings, festivals and religious milestones have long drawn Nashik's households to buy ornaments here.

• Within a short walk you can compare a dozen jewellers, most of them long-established local names rather than national chains, and the concentration keeps designs and rates competitive.
• Shoppers come for hallmarked (BIS-certified) gold, everyday silver, temple-style and antique-finish pieces, and full bridal sets — necklaces, bangles, nose-rings, waist chains and the Maharashtrian classics such as the crescent-shaped nath and thushi and kolhapuri saaj.

• Morning to early evening is the calmest window; the lane is busiest around festivals and the wedding season, and around Simhastha (Kumbh) years when the city swells with visitors.
