Sadhugram — literally "the settlement of the sadhus" — is the sprawling temporary township that the Nashik district administration raises on the open riverside flats of Tapovan for each Simhastha Kumbh, the great spiritual gathering that Nashik shares as one of India's four Kumbh cities. For most of its cycle the ground here is quiet meadow beside the Godavari, but in the run-up to the mela a whole city materialises almost overnight: gridded lanes of canvas tents, akhara camps, community kitchens, water points, dispensaries, bathing enclosures and countless small shrines, all laid out to house the sadhus, mahants, akharas and lay pilgrims who arrive for the duration. It is one of the most extraordinary feats of temporary urban planning in the country, and for a few weeks Tapovan becomes a living town of tens of thousands.

The Nashik–Trimbak Simhastha runs roughly every twelve years (the last was in 2015; the next is anticipated around 2027), so outside those windows you will find the Tapovan grounds as open riverside land rather than the tented city. How to Reach: Tapovan is about 3–4 km north-east of Nashik's Central Bus Stand (CBS) and roughly 9–10 km from Nashik Road railway station; autos and city buses run to Panchavati and Tapovan. During the Kumbh, special shuttle and pilgrim-transport arrangements operate with restricted vehicle access, so follow the posted plans and park at designated lots.

The surrounding Panchavati and Tapovan area has many pure-vegetarian eateries — Budha Halwai in Panchavati for sweets and farsan, and several pure-veg thali and udupi-style houses around Panchavati Karanja. During the Kumbh, akharas and volunteers also serve free sattvic langar. Nashik's famous misal is widely available, but ask for the pure-veg or Jain option, as not every misal house is pure-vegetarian.
Treat it as a place of pilgrimage first: dress modestly, seek permission before photographing sadhus, avoid blocking processions or bathing areas, and follow the guidance of volunteers and police. The atmosphere is devotional and communal.
