Threading through the heart of Nashik's old town, Main Road is the historic commercial spine that has served the city's shoppers for well over a century.

• Running roughly between the Central Bus Stand (CBS) area and the older quarters that fold down towards the Godavari and Panchavati, it is less a single monument than a living streetscape: rows of low colonial-era buildings with carved wooden fronts, painted shutters, and first-floor balconies that lean over the pavements while the trade below spills onto the road.
• This is where Nashikkars have long come for the things a household actually needs, and the mix of everyday bustle and old architecture gives the lane a character that survives the newer malls on the city's edge. The shopping is refreshingly traditional.
• Textile shops stock cotton and silk sarees, including prized Paithani weaves with their peacock and lotus borders (the famous weaving town of Yeola lies within Nashik district), alongside blouse fabric, dress material and dupattas.
• Interlinking side lanes lead to specialist bazaars: the jewellers' quarter around Saraf Bazaar, and clusters devoted to brass and copper utensils, a craft with deep roots in the region.
• You will also find puja articles, festival goods, sweets, dry fruit and general provisions, making the street a natural stop for pilgrims heading to nearby Panchavati and Ramkund.
• It is best explored slowly on foot in the cooler evening hours, when the shopfronts light up and the crowds are at their liveliest; weekends and festival seasons are busiest.
• Note that individual shop timings vary, many stay shut on certain public holidays, and prices in the smaller lanes are often negotiable.
• Photographers enjoy the layered facades and hand-painted signage, and the area pairs well with a walk to the Godavari ghats.
• For food, the old town around Main Road is misal country — Nashik's signature spicy sprouted-bean curry with farsan.
• Several nearby misal houses and snack counters are vegetarian, but not all are pure-veg, so ask specifically for the pure-veg or Jain option before ordering.
• You will also find pure-vegetarian thali restaurants, South Indian tiffin, poha, sabudana khichdi and bhel stalls in and around the Ravivar Karanja and Panchavati stretches, most within a short walk.
