TARQ Contemporary Art Gallery

Hena Kapadia founded TARQ in 2014. The gallery describes its purpose as encouraging conversation around art and supporting experimental contemporary practices. Use that emphasis on enquiry as a way into the visit: you do not need a finished interpretation before spending time with an unfamiliar work.

Start with the show's introductory text, then choose two works that seem to approach a related subject differently. Compare the material, the arrangement of space and the distance from which each piece is viewed. Take a second look after reading a caption; noticing how your response changes is part of the experience.

TARQ's outreach includes workshops, gallery walk-throughs and talks. These activities relate to the exhibition programme and have their own dates. Ask what is scheduled during your stay rather than expecting a workshop to be available whenever the gallery is open to ordinary visitors.

The official address is K K Navsari Chambers, ground floor, 39B A K Nayak Marg, Fort, Mumbai 400001. Published opening is Tuesday–Saturday, 11 am–6:30 pm. Confirm holidays and changes between installations before travelling, particularly if the gallery is your main reason for going to Fort.
