Sudama Setu (Footbridge)

Sudama Setu is Dwarka's most photographed modern landmark, a long pedestrian suspension footbridge that swings gently over the tidal Gomti creek just where the river meets the Arabian Sea.

• Named after Sudama, the humble childhood friend of Lord Krishna whose story of devotion is cherished in tradition, the bridge connects the busy Gomti Ghat below the Dwarkadhish (Jagat Mandir) temple to the quieter Panchkui side, where a cluster of small shrines and an open stretch of beach await.
• For most visitors it is a short, breezy add-on to the temple darshan: you descend the ghat steps, buy a nominal ticket, and step onto the gently bouncing span for one of the finest wide-angle views in the city.
• From mid-bridge the panorama is genuinely memorable.
• Look back and the carved spire of the Dwarkadhish temple rises above the ghat, its multi-coloured flag snapping in the sea wind; look ahead and the creek widens toward the grey-blue Arabian Sea, dotted with moored boats and wheeling gulls.
• The bridge is a favourite spot at first light, when pilgrims come to the ghat for a ritual dip, and again in the golden hour before sunset, when the water turns copper and the whole span fills with families and photographers.
• Because it crosses a working tidal creek, the walkway is usually closed during high tide and can be windy, so it is worth checking timings and holding on to hats and dupattas.
• Practically, Sudama Setu is an easy, mostly flat walk suitable for most ages, though the approach involves ghat steps and the surface can be slippery when wet.
• On the far Panchkui side you can wander among modest shrines, reach the sandy shore, and enjoy the calmer, less crowded outlook back across the water.
• Allow thirty to forty-five minutes; combine it with an early Dwarkadhish darshan and a stroll along the ghat.
• For food, stay pure-vegetarian as the whole pilgrim belt does: the lanes around the Dwarkadhish temple and the main bazaar are lined with pure-veg Gujarati and Kathiyawadi thali houses serving unlimited rotli, shaak, dal, rice, kadhi and farsan, alongside simple bhojanalayas offering satvik meals to pilgrims.
• Look for a clean, busy thali restaurant near the temple gate for a wholesome lunch, and pick up chaas (buttermilk), fresh jalebi or a glass of sugarcane juice from the vendors near Gomti Ghat after your walk.
• Being a strict temple town, everything here is meat-free and alcohol-free by custom.
