Poshitra Viewpoint

Out on the far western tip of the Okhamandal peninsula, where the land frays into the shallow waters of the Gulf of Kutch, Poshitra is one of Saurashtra's quietest coastal edges.

• Reached by a rough road running north-west from Okha, it sits at the boundary of the Gulf of Kutch Marine National Park and Sanctuary — India's first marine protected area — a stretch of intertidal reef, mangrove and mudflat that is far more about slow observation than dramatic scenery.
• There are no ticket gates or built promenades here; the "viewpoint" is simply the open shore itself, where the tide draws back to expose broad flats of sand, seagrass and rock.
• Timing is everything at Poshitra, and the sea sets the schedule.
• At low tide the retreating water lays bare a living intertidal world — clusters of mangrove, pools left in the rock, and the crabs, molluscs and starfish that shelter in them.
• The Marine National Park is celebrated for corals, sponges and sea life, and this coast is one of its gentler windows; visitors are asked to look but never collect, as the whole zone is protected.
• Migratory and resident shorebirds — egrets, herons, gulls, plovers and, in season, flamingos on distant flats — work the shallows, making it a rewarding spot for patient birdwatchers with binoculars.
• Practicalities matter on this remote shore.
• There is little shade, no reliable food or water, and phone signal is thin, so carry your own supplies, sun protection and sturdy footwear for slippery rock.
• Check tide timings before setting out, keep to firm ground, and go with a local guide or driver if you can — the flats are easy to misjudge as the water returns.
• Late afternoon into sunset is the loveliest window, when the light softens over the gulf and the day's heat eases.
• It pairs naturally with a Bet Dwarka or Nageshwar Jyotirlinga circuit from Okha.
• For food, treat Poshitra as a place to visit between meals and eat back near Okha, Bet Dwarka jetty or Dwarka town, where the pilgrim belt keeps things reliably pure-vegetarian.
• Simple pure-veg Gujarati and Kathiyawadi thali houses near Okha and Dwarka serve unlimited thalis of rotli, shaak, dal, kadhi, rice and farsan, while temple-side bhojanalayas and prasad counters around Dwarkadhish offer plain sattvic meals.
• Carry packaged vegetarian snacks, fruit and plenty of water for the drive out, as the coast itself has no dependable eateries.
