Surya Kund Light-and-Sound Show

Surya Kund is one of Ayodhya's most atmospheric sacred water tanks, set in the Darshan Nagar quarter on the Chaudah Koshi Parikrama Marg — the great fourteen-kos pilgrim circuit that rings the holy city.

• Known to devotees also as Ghoshark (Goshark) Teerth, the kund carries a deep symbolic link to Surya, the sun deity: Lord Rama belonged to the Suryavamsha, the Solar Dynasty of the Ikshvaku kings, and worship of the sun is woven through the family's legend.
• For generations the still, garden-fringed tank has been a place of quiet ritual bathing, morning arghya (water offerings) to the rising sun, and gentle introspection away from the busier riverside ghats.
• In recent years the Ayodhya Development Authority has reimagined the kund as an after-dark cultural destination through a large-format light-and-sound show.
• As dusk falls, laser projection and 3D visuals play across curtains of illuminated water and the tank's embankments, while a narrated soundtrack recounts episodes from the Ramayana — Rama's birth into the Solar line, his upbringing, and the enduring tradition of Surya worship.
• The presentation runs roughly half an hour and turns the placid daytime pond into a shimmering evening spectacle of colour, music and mist, popular with families and pilgrim groups completing the parikrama route.
• By day the setting is altogether calmer: landscaped gardens, clean paved walkways and the broad, well-tended reservoir make it a restful spot for meditation, a slow stroll or a family pause between temple visits.
• Many pilgrims fold Surya Kund into a wider circuit of Ayodhya's kunds and shrines, treating the daytime visit and the evening show as two very different moods of the same tranquil place.
• For vegetarian travellers Ayodhya is wholly reassuring: the entire holy city is a strictly vegetarian and alcohol-free pilgrimage zone.
• No food is guaranteed inside the kund enclosure itself, but the surrounding Parikrama Marg and the nearby town keep pilgrims well fed with pure-vegetarian thalis, kachori-sabzi, dahi-jalebi and temple-style peda.
• Simple courtesies apply — dress modestly, keep the water and gardens clean, and observe the show quietly so everyone can hear the narration.
