Junagadh State Museum, Sakkarbaug

Tucked inside the leafy Sakkarbaug grounds on the northern edge of Junagadh, the Junagadh State Museum is one of Saurashtra's older public collections, assembled during the era of the Nawabs of Junagadh and today maintained as a state heritage institution.

• It is an easy add-on to a day trip from Somnath, roughly ninety kilometres north, and pairs naturally with the neighbouring zoological garden, the ramparts of Uparkot Fort and the pilgrim trails up Mount Girnar.
• The museum makes no grand claim on the skyline; its appeal is quieter, a set of galleries where the layered past of this princely town is laid out in glass cases and open plinths.

• Practically, the museum is compact enough to see in under an hour, making it a sensible pairing with Sakkarbaug's wider gardens.
• Because it lies within the zoo campus, access and timings can follow the garden's own schedule, so it is worth confirming hours and any combined entry locally before setting out.
