Sandipani Vidyaniketan Ashram, Porbandar

Spread across a tranquil, garden-laced campus on the coastal plain near Porbandar, Sandipani Vidyaniketan is a modern Vedic gurukul and cultural centre founded by the celebrated Bhagavata katha exponent Pujya Bhaishri Rameshbhai Oza.

• It takes its name from Sandipani, the sage who, by tradition, was the guru of Lord Krishna and his childhood companion Sudama — a fitting dedication in the very region tradition ties to Sudama's Porbandar (Sudamapuri).
• The ashram was established in the 1990s as a place where the ancient guru-shishya tradition could continue in a contemporary setting, and it has since grown into one of Saurashtra's best-known centres of Sanskrit learning and devotional life.
